Despite rising political tensions in the region, fixtures involving Crystal Palace and Liverpool in Cyprus and Turkey are expected to proceed as planned, UEFA has confirmed to Sky Sports News.
Liverpool are scheduled to travel to face Galatasaray on March 10 for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, while Crystal Palace will take on AEK Larnaca away from home on March 19.
A UEFA spokesperson stated:
“UEFA is closely monitoring the situation and remains in contact with the participating clubs and relevant local authorities where necessary.”
At present, all European matches scheduled in the coming weeks are set to go ahead as planned.
Regarding the Finalissima on March 27, UEFA added that it is continuing to assess developments in coordination with CONMEBOL and the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
The update follows reports that a RAF base in Akrotiri, Cyprus, was struck by a drone on Monday amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, which began over the weekend.
