Arsenal secured a crucial 1–0 victory over Brighton as Bukayo Saka’s early goal helped the Gunners move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
The decisive moment came in the ninth minute when Saka’s shot took a slight deflection off Carlos Baleba before slipping past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. The early strike proved enough for Mikel Arteta’s side to claim all three points in a tense encounter on the south coast.
Arsenal took advantage of Manchester City’s 2–2 draw with Nottingham Forest earlier in the day, extending their lead in the title race. However, the Gunners had to work hard for the result as Brighton controlled large portions of the match.
The hosts enjoyed around 60 percent possession and created several chances but struggled to break down Arsenal’s disciplined defence. Brighton nearly scored inside the opening two minutes after David Raya misplaced a pass, but Gabriel produced a crucial goal-line clearance to keep the scores level.
Goalkeeper Raya later made an important save to deny Georginio Rutter as Brighton continued to push for an equaliser. Despite limited attacking opportunities, Arsenal nearly doubled their lead late on when substitute Kai Havertz forced a save from Verbruggen.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler criticised Arsenal’s tactics after the match, accusing the visitors of time-wasting. Nevertheless, Arsenal held firm defensively to secure an important win.
The final whistle sparked celebrations among travelling Arsenal fans as the Gunners strengthened their grip on the title race, albeit having played one game more than Manchester City.
