At UFC 326, Charles Oliveira delivered a dominant grappling performance to defeat Max Holloway and claim a unanimous decision victory in the fifth BMF title fight in UFC history. The bout, held at T-Mobile Arena, showcased Oliveira’s elite ground control as he shut out Holloway across five rounds, with all three judges scoring the fight 50–45.
While previous BMF championship fights were known for their thrilling exchanges and dramatic finishes, this contest was defined by Oliveira’s tactical dominance rather than fireworks. The former lightweight champion implemented a clear strategy from the opening moments, immediately taking Holloway to the mat with a slick outside trip and controlling the pace of the fight.
Throughout the contest, Oliveira repeatedly imposed his grappling superiority. He secured takedowns in every round and constantly threatened submissions, including multiple rear-naked choke and face-crank attempts. By the end of the fight, Oliveira had accumulated an astonishing 20 minutes and 49 seconds of control time, highlighting how effectively he neutralised Holloway’s striking game.
Despite being placed in difficult positions, Holloway displayed the resilience that has defined his career. The former featherweight champion managed to escape several submission attempts and even showed flashes of confidence early on, smiling and shrugging during the opening rounds. However, as the fight progressed, it became increasingly clear that Oliveira’s ground pressure was overwhelming.
Oliveira also mixed in effective striking when opportunities presented themselves. In the third round, he landed a sharp knee that snapped Holloway’s head back, and in the fourth he delivered damaging elbows from the mount. Holloway briefly found success in the final round when he secured a takedown of his own, but the momentum was short-lived as Oliveira quickly reversed the position and regained control.
With only seconds left in the fight, Holloway stood up and invited Oliveira to trade strikes in the centre of the Octagon, pointing to the canvas in his trademark style. Oliveira accepted the challenge briefly, even landing a clean right hand before the final bell.
After the fight, Oliveira expressed deep respect for his opponent during his Octagon interview, praising Holloway not only as a fighter but also for his character. Oliveira emphasised that both men represent their families and careers with pride rather than relying on trash talk to promote fights.
The victory improves Oliveira’s professional record to 37-11, marking his second consecutive win since suffering a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in a vacant title fight last year. Meanwhile, Holloway drops to 27-9, suffering his first defeat since his own loss to Topuria in 2024.
Despite the setback, Holloway remained optimistic after the fight, promising fans he would return stronger and eventually seek another showdown with Oliveira.
With this commanding performance, Oliveira once again proved why he remains one of the most dangerous grapplers in MMA historyand a worthy holder of the BMF belt.
